Honda Even Has Green Manufacturing Facilities

With Honda vehicles like the hybrid Honda Insight and CR-Z, the majority of drivers know that the Japanese automaker makes an incredible green car. However, the factories in which these green cars are manufactured prior to hitting the dealerships like Nalley Honda Brunswick in Brunswick, Georgia are the greenest in the automotive industry.

Results from a survey from the nonprofit, US Green Building Council, Honda Head Quarters in Torrance, CA and their Anna, OH powertrain factory both earned the highest "Green Building" certifications. The Honda Canada HQ in Markham, Ontario, was awarded with a very similar certification from the Canada Green Building Council.

'Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design,' also known as LEED are for buildings intended to reduce energy use, as well as producing a smaller carbon footprint. LEED certification is an admired award for major corporations where companies seek the designation for facilities around the globe and can even obtain government tax breaks in order to convert their buildings into eco-friendly facilities.

"Honda is focused on reducing the environmental impact of all its operations, not just its products," said Honda spokesman Marcos Frommer. "With our LEED announcement we're highlighting our leadership in an area of growing concern, which is the sustainability of corporate facilities. Not only is this type of activity the right thing to do, but we also believe consumers are looking for companies that are taking a holistic approach to reducing their environmental impact." 1

The first Honda LEED-certified building was the Japanese automaker's parts and service training factory located in Gresham, OR designated back in 1999
