It is almost time for the 2013 Honda Fit EV to hit showroom floors. But, before we see the electric vehicle at dealerships like Nalley Honda Brunswick, the Honda Fit must pass the Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program. For those of you who do not know, the first Honda Fit EV recently made its way to Torrance, CA to begin real-world testing. Even more recent, two 2013 Honda Fit EVs headed to Google headquarters and Stanford University. Both organizations will also be testing the eco-friendly electric vehicle.

Didn't Honda debut the electric Fit last year? Absolutely, the electric vehicle's debut was at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.  Honda has been very serious about completing the Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration before the production model arrives at showrooms, because the Japanese automaker wants to know the ins and outs of the vehicle, including the electric vehicle's unique challenges and its opportunities related to battery-electric technological innovation.

Steve Carter, VP Environmental Business Development Office, American Honda explains, "Honda has a long history with electric vehicles, beginning with the introduction of our first battery-electric car, the EV Plus, nearly 15 years ago. Honda's experience and the unique feedback that Google, Stanford University and the city of Torrance will provide will be valuable to the future introduction of battery-electric technology."¹

The Fit EV production model will arrive at select west coast markets first, beginning this summer. The Fit EV is also expected to be available in select east coast markets by next spring.
