Honda Showcases Four Bold Vehicles At Tokyo Auto Salon

Like SEMA in Las Vegas, the Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) is the place for automakers to showcase their most daring customized vehicles. Only given Japan's unique aesthetic preferences, which some Americans categorize as over-the-top, the Tokyo Auto Salon often serves as the stage where brands take their customizations to the next level. No stranger catering to the Japanese crowd, Honda showcased four bold vehicles at this year's TAS show, proving that they have a side which is far more outrageous than their American best-sellers (i.e., the Honda Accord and Honda Civic) lead us to believe.

Of the four customized vehicles Honda wowed Tokyo with, the vehicle garnering the loudest buzz among consumers and the media is by far the Flash Box based on the Honda N Box Kei. Judging from the customized car's matte-gray exterior contrasting reflective decals, and interior and exterior Pink-Floyd-inspired LED light display, Nalley Honda Brunswick ventures a guess that Honda named the car not for its flashiness but rather the brilliant, purple halo, which, when the Flash Box is in motion, must resemble a camera flash.

But enough pontificating over nomenclature; the real message Honda sends with a vehicle like the Flash Box finished with urban steelie-inspired rims, is that they have the wherewithal to appeal not only to the practical-minded but fun-loving, young city drivers, as well. Among the other concepts Honda showcased at TAS are the  Honda Freed Wa (based on the Honda Freed Hybrid compact minivan), Honda Freed Spike Transporter (also based on the Honda Freed Hybrid compact minivan, but designed to haul off-road motorcycles rather than families), and skirted Honda Beat (which hasn't been in production since '96).
